Jon - An interesting menu in what is no longer the Red Chilli, but somewhat disappointing overall. The scallop starter was ok but the starter marked down because the popadoms were stale. Mixed grill main was fine but came with plain rice which was fine but not what I would have chosen. £50 is par for the course these days but difficult to justify on this occasion.
Jeff - The Red Chilli has had a name change, but the inside looked the same to me. The drinks menu featured Cinzano Bianco, and I half-expected Joan Collins to come out and take our order. Cracking evening in terms of conversation and laughs, but not so in terms of food which was completely nondescript, basic stuff. I regretted ordering the mixed grill as it all tasted the same, the little bit of mushroom bhaji I had was absolutely average, as was the naan bread and starter. And the poppadoms were stale. I suspect we won't be back in Leman Street next year, so won't have to endure the Brown Bear which was as dismal as usual, and almost deserted.
Mark - No more Red Chilli! After the short walk from the Brown Bear we entered this 'new' restaurant to find it looked very similar to the previous visits including a dated picture of the late ER II. My lamb may have come from the same era as the picture as it was very dry and chewy - not great. Starter seemed to lack the advertised spinach and the pops tasted stale. Overall it was rubbish and the cost high. Main meals looked to be costly but rice was included even where not required.
John - Sheek Kebab followed by chicken shashlik. All ok ... nothing outstanding though. Stale poppadoms.
Graeme - This was the first visit for us to the recently opened Rasoi Ghar (in the premises previously occupied by the Red Chilli). The menu was certainly different to the norm and neither of the two dishes that I ended up ordering could be described as curries. I had Seared Scallop and Calamari to start and the Rasoi Ghar Mix Grill for main. Both were nice but the main was a dry dish (predictably) and, if I was ordering again, I would probably go for a curry with sauce. The dish came with boiled rice - I would normally go for Pilau. Everything else was OK but the price was on the lumpy side at £50 per head.
Brian - Nice to be back in the Brown Bear, it's been a while. Despite the new management and name, I thought the restaurant was very good. Starter of Calamari and Scallops was lovely, Keralan fish curry main was equally good. Veg and rice all good - an excellent meal in my opinion. Company excellent.
